Judge these fans by their size, do you? In that case, they’re quite formidable. 480 fans, culled from over 1,500 clip submissions, just made a shot-for-shot remake of The Empire Strikes Back. The styles are wildly erratic, and that’s part of the fun. Just in the Rebel’s base on Hoth, the film jumps from live action in someone’s basement, to a thoughtfully-constructed set, to stop motion, to crude animation. It’s quite a wonder to behold, and may be the greatest fan film of all time.

The mastermind behind the project is Casey Pugh, whose Star Wars: Uncut from 2010 won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media.

Obviously, Return of the Jedi is next, but maybe then he’ll move on to Indiana Jones or Lord of the Rings. I’m not sure any fans want to recreate Anakin and Padme’s fireplace scene from Attack of the Clones.
