One of the world's greatest swordsmen competes against an incredibly agile machine

  • You may or may not be aware of the impending robot apocalypse. Robots keep getting smarter, faster, stronger. It's only a matter of time before we're all living in a futuristic hellscape, running from the machines, and preserving what little humanity we have left. But until then, check out this robot with a sword!

Isao Machii is a master in iaijyutsu, the traditional Japanese art of sword fighting. He is a five-time iaijyutsu record holder. In this ad for the Yaskawa has Machii "teach" a robot how to wield a sword. )Because teaching robots how to swing katanas will definitely not come back to haunt us at some point in the future.) The two then have a "competition" of man vs. machine. Not to spoil anything, but they both look super cool.

It's pretty impressive what Yaskawa have done. Even more impressive is Machii's incredible skill. Just please don't teach the robots all of your tricks, Machii. At least give humanity a chance in the future.
