The X-Men couldn’t let the Avengers, Batman and Superman have all the fun – they needed an epic civil-war-type movie of their own to keep the mega-franchise going.

The new trailer for “X-Men: Apocalypse” has the internet buzzing today, as the ultimate mutant Apocalypse awakens after thousands of years and decides to purge the Earth of humanity and start fresh, Old Testament style. A disheartened Magneto sides with him, leaving a team of young mutants including Cyclops and Jean Grey to fight alongside Professor X and save mankind from destruction.

Notably, we don’t see any sign of Wolverine in this movie, and there’s a more prominent role for Jennifer Lawrence as Raven aka Mystique, who is a) no longer blue and b) a hero instead of a villain, thanks to the new timeline established by “Days of Future Past.” It looks like she may have replaced Cyclops as the leader of the team. She also looks and sounds a whole lot like Katniss, which makes it seem like the movie is trying to grab the “Hunger Games” audience as those films wrap up.

We’ve also got Sophie Turner (better known as Sansa Stark from “Game of Thrones”) as Jean Grey, and there’s a parting shot of James McAvoy as a bald Professor X, meaning he loses all his flowing 1970s hair for some reason.

Will this be awesome or overkill? Is Jennifer Lawrence’s star power going to overwhelm the movie? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
