If you were watching our live tweet of the GOP debate last night, you’ll know it was lots of yelling – Marco Rubio arguing with Ted Cruz, Chris Christie bickering with Rand Paul, everybody yelling at Donald Trump. But there was one bright moment, and that was Frank Underwood announcing his run for president.

Sure, it was fictional, but it was a nice distraction.

Netflix aired this brilliant commercial for the fourth season of “House of Cards” during the debate, with the ever-suave Kevin Spacey as President Frank Underwood. Amid images of sun-drenched farmland, soldiers hugging their families, fighter jets soaring and children running through fields with American flags, the ad declares, “It’s a new day in America. Today, more people will go to work, return to their families, and sleep more soundly than ever before. All because one man refuses to settle, putting people before politics. That man is Frank Underwood.”

In the previous three seasons (spoilers ahead), Frank Underwood has lied and manipulated his way in to the office of Vice President, pushed a political reporter in front of a train, orchestrated the impeachment and resignation of the President, taken over the White House and destroyed numerous lives and careers, so we kinda shouldn’t think he’s cooler than the real-life candidates on the debate stage – but boy, is it tempting sometimes.
