  • Oh man! Here’s a notch in the good news department! Fantastic actress, star of This is Us, (and also our Earth Day sketch!), Milana Vayntrub has been cast as Squirrel Girl in the new Freeform Marvel Cinematic Universe series New Warriors. In the comics the New Warriors are a team of weirdo misfit superheroes too lame and nerdy to ever be a part of any real team (one character for example, talks to germs), and Squirrel Girl, a character co-created by Spider-Man artist Steve Ditko, and writer Will Murray, is certainly one of them.

Created in 1992, Squirrel Girl was seen using her power — the power to talk to squirrels — to stop Dr. Doom, then the biggest villain in the Marvel Universe. Since then the joke has been that her ridiculous power could destroy any villain, and she has been a consistent source of comedy in the Marvel Universe. Currently she has an incredibly popular series coming out from writer Ryan North and artist Erika Moen.

The part of Squirrel Girl has had some ridiculous press about it for a few months as actresses were discussing their interest in playing the part, seemingly just out of love for the character. Anna Kendrick expressed interested, but actress Shannon Purser, best known for playing Barb in Stranger Things, was the fan favorite.

But you can’t go wrong with the hilarious Milana Vayntrub — a choice we are absolutely excited about! What do you think of the casting? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
