  • Taylor Swift just released the first single from her upcoming album, Reputation, and the song certainly seems to point to a transformation in the pop singers personality. Indeed, the revenge laden motif of “Look At What You Made Me Do” seems like the opposite of her hit single “Shake It Off”, which was all about casually shaking off the haters. It points to a new revenge minded, intense, almost villainous Taylor Swift, an idea epitomized when we hear Taylor Swift say to someone on the other end of the line—

”I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, cause she’s dead!”

So Taylor Swift is out for revenge, but against who? The easy bet would of course be against Kim Kardashian and Kanye West — and the snake motif used in both the promotion and the music video itself seems to hint at as much. This goes back to when Taylor Swift criticized Kanye for calling her a bitch on “Famous” off of “Life of Pablo”, resulting in Kim Kardashian releasing a video of Taylor Swift seemingly giving Kanye permission (albeit, in a heavily edited video), and proceeded to call her a snake. Is the new single about that particular dust up? Or more? We might have more clues when the music video comes out, of which Taylor Swift released a quick preview.
