  • Look, there are few good apologies for sexual harassing a fourteen year old, but Kevin Spaceys might have been the worst one imaginable. It was so bad it may have even stolen the show for them fact that — again — allegedly he sexually advanced on a teenager. Specifically actor Anthony Rapp, an actor currently starring in Star Trek: Discovery, and who was in the original cast of Rent as a child, came forward with his story to Buzzfeed. Anthony Rapp met Spacey at the after party of a Broadway show Rapp was appearing in. Afterwards, when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26, Spacey picked him up and put him on a bed, getting on top of him and making aggressive and unwanted sexual advance at him — grabbing his arms until Rapp managed to “squirm” away.

  • So, Kevin Spacey has apologized for you know — trying to commit statutory rape — but what’s weird is in his apology, Kevin Spacey has chosen to come out? Kevin Spacey’s homosexuality has always been a bit of an open secret in Hollywood, but his choosing to come out during basically also being outed as someone who would do an unwanted sexual advance on a teenager is trying to both avoid the accusation and also does a great disservice to the LGBTQ community. Public LGBTQ figures have come out about the terrible apology.

  • Many publications have chosen to focus on Spacey’s coming out instead of his assault allegations, and that’s not great. Let’s not do that. Let’s not let his deflection work. It would have been better if he would have come out during a time when he could have acted as an inspiration to the LGBTQ community, but here we are. Whatever.
