  • SZA is a superstar, and Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN. topped critics’ best of 2017 music lists — you know, on account of it being so incredible. Black Panther — coming out February 16— isn’t just a Marvel movie — it’s an event unto itself. So, is there any doubt why Kendrick Lamar and SZA working on a song together for Black Panther is a big deal?

The song is titled All the Stars and gets into the spirit and heart of Black Panther — with the chorus talking about getting to the orbit of greatness that Black Panther is so close to. The lyrics go —

This may be the night that my dreams might let me know

All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer

This may be the night that my dreams might let me know

All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer

The song is part of an album titled, appropriately enough, Black Panther: The Album — which will be made up of songs from the film and new music inspired by the movie. Kendrick Lamar will be working with Anthony Tiffith — founder of Top Dawg Entertainment— to design the album. Kendrick said of the collaboration —

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside [Ryan Coogler] and Marvel’s vision.
