  • It’s fair to say Black Panther opened our culture up to a lot of new things — a black superhero film outpacing all but two movies in American history, Afro futurism in the mainstream, a soundtrack for a movie that somehow could be one of the top albums of the year, and a variety of incredible stars — not the least of which was Letitia Wright!

As Shuri, T’Challa’s bratty, but genius, little sister, Letitia brought a puckish energy to the entire affair, and as an audience, we want to know more — and not just about the character she portrays but the actress herself. We got the chance to do just that when Jimmy Fallon had her on The Tonight Show and played a round of “Wheel of Freestyle”.

“Wheel of Freestyle”, like so many of Fallon’s challenges, depends on the person in question not being the particular best at the challenge in question, and Letitia Wright, while holding her own, was of course no match for the Roots’ own, Black Thought. Letitia did well enough on the first verse, and the second verse came out goofily bad. Enter Jimmy Fallon who, despite his proclamations of incompetence at this game, gave a surprisingly good verse. Damn, Jimmy Fallon. I guess it’s true what they say. You’re not awful at absolutely everything, after all.
