X-Men OFFICIALLY Headed To Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wolverine to Be Recast
Snikt AND Thwip!? In one movie!? Okay...
I guess this is how you hide a massive merger with insane layoffs, you go “Hey! What if Cyclops met Black Panther’s sister Shuri?! You kids would love that, right!?” And indeed, you would, because the X-Men are headed to the Cinematic Marvel Universe, under the vision of current MCU super producer Kevin Feige. Kevin Feige, as many know, got his Marvel producer start with the original X-Men franchise at the turn of the millennium before transitioning to the Disney owned MCU. Now, due to a deal with Fox that is no doubt a result of the merger, and similar to the one with Sony that brought Spider-Man to the cinematic universe, where Sony shares the rights and gets to do some of its own thing, the X-Men will indeed be transitioning to the MCU, with a new Wolverine in tow.
Of course, this is nothing new. Hugh Jackman exited the role recently after the Academy Award nominated “Logan” (which by the way was a perfect movie), and longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner discussed why Feige may want a new actor for the role, but did not rule out Hugh Jackman returning some day to play an older version of the character. Courtesy of /Film:
“Yes, because Hugh, just the physicality of it all, just to bulk up. This man worked so hard to bulk up, would get up at four in the morning to bulk and eat protein meals every two hours because his natural state, they used to call him Worm when he was a kid. So his natural state is a very skinny guy. Once you reach a certain age, the body just won’t go anymore. I think he was wise to say, ‘I’m at that point. I can’t do it.’ Now, that doesn’t mean he can’t come back as older Wolverine. You never know. Future Wolverine, you never know.”
Hugh “The Worm” Jackman. Lovely.
This change means that the X-Men brand and its successful and beloved franchises — including Deadpool and its upcoming (maybe not?) spin-off X-Force are now under the Disney brand. Will Disney allow the movie to live on parallel to the Marvel Universe, like they did with the talked about Venom and the Academy Award nominated Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse? I mean, I hope so. I love Deadpool. Give me more Deadpool, you cowards!
