Yesterday Justin Bieber finally apologized for spitting on his fans! Wait, no. For smoking so much weed on a plane that the pilots had to wear oxygen masks! Oh, that’s not it either. For egging his neighbors house! Oh, right, we didn’t get an apology for that one. What he DID apologize for was a super immature racist joke he made when he was 15.
“As a young man, I didn’t understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt. I thought it was OK to repeat hurtful words and jokes, but didn’t realize at the time that it wasn’t funny and that in fact my actions were continuing the ignorance,” said the Biebs.
“I take my friendships with people of all cultures very seriously and I apologize for offending or hurting anyone with my childish and inexcusable mistake. I was a kid then and I am a man now who knows my responsibility to the world and to not make that mistake again.”
Wow…That was a great apology. Sincere. To the point. Regretful. But am I the only one who thinks that this is way long overdue and maybe not the worst thing he’s ever done?
Hopefully this is the beautiful beginning to a new world where Justin Bieber acts like a grown up and takes accountability for his mistakes. Or maybe stops making them in the first place.
