  • Kesha has dropped a bombshell in the ongoing case against her producer Dr. Luke, saying in an Instagram post that she was offered her freedom — but only if she publicly rescinded and apologized for her accusations that he raped and abused her.

  • “So. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.”

For months now, Kesha has claimed that Dr. Luke emotionally abused, drugged and raped her after signing her on to his Kemosabe Records label with Sony. Her career has ground to a halt as a result, and her loyal fans launched a #FreeKesha movement on social media to pressure Sony to release her from her contract and allow her to make music again. More recently, a New York court ruled that Kesha had to honor her current contract, essentially forcing her to keep working with her alleged abuser.

Dr. Luke’s spokesperson sent a statement to Rolling Stone, insisting that the allegations are false and Kesha is free to record without Dr. Luke — and anyone familiar with the tactics of gaslighting and emotional manipulation will find plenty of things to make their skin crawl in that statement.

“The only thing Kesha is not free to do is to continue to lie about Dr. Luke through publicity stunts and outrageous smears, ignoring the fact that by her own free will she went to work and entered into new contracts with Dr. Luke years after this ‘incident’ supposedly happened. Her goal all along has been solely personal enrichment by seeking to break contracts that brought her success and millions so she can enter into more lucrative ones.”

Kesha’s supporters have responded with renewed outrage toward Dr. Luke and an outpouring of support for the singer.
