  • The man behind an infamous murder died in prison this week… and Lena Dunham may have sort of psychically killed him.

She also flashed her naked crotch on television, but that’s beside the point.

Let’s back up a bit: this week, a convicted murderer named Winston Moseley died after 52 years in prison. He’s known for murdering 28-year-old Kitty Genovese, stabbing her to death outside her apartment in Queens, New York in 1964.

Kitty’s story was one of the viral headlines of its time, because 38 people inside the apartment building supposedly witnessed the murder but didn’t call the police — a phenomenon later called the Bystander Effect, where people in a group are less likely to take action because they assume someone else will. The murder has been immortalized in countless books, movies and plays over the years.

Today, the killer’s death is trending on Facebook — and by a crazy coincidence, this happened at exactly the same time that Lena Dunham’s HBO show “Girls” aired an episode about Kitty Genovese, in which the girls attend an interactive play about the night of the murder.

We can only assume there’s some sort of karmic connection going on here.

(There’s also that whole controversial moment where Lena uncrosses her legs and flashes her crotch, Basic Instinct-style, but it’s not like Lena Dunham getting naked is particularly shocking at this point.)

Dunham shared the headline on her Instagram, writing, “This is one of the weirdest coincidences the universe has yet to serve up in my short time here on earth. #spookytiming #RIPKitty”
