  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has always been pretty good at the internet — his entertaining Twitter account has more than 10 million followers, his Instagram game is on fire and he’s generally got the perfect combination of cockiness and humor.

So it was only a matter of time before he decided to take on YouTube and beat everybody at their own game.

The first video on his brand new YouTube channel starts out as a trailer for a supernatural movie called “Ascendance,” with a dramatic voice-over declaring, “Once a generation, there comes an event so epic that it dominates our culture and alters our perspective on life as we know it.”

But then it turns out the whole epic tale is taking place in The Rock’s magnificent eyebrow as he sits at his desk. “I should start a YouTube channel,” he says. “Hey, Ray! Go ahead and call the president of the Internet. Tell him Rock’s got a hell of an idea.”

Officially called Seven Bucks Digital Studios, the channel was made in collaboration with Studio71 and will feature videos from Johnson, as well as original scripted series and collaborations with social media stars.

We’re sure to see a lot of his good friend Lilly Singh aka IISuperwomanII, who showed a teaser video for The Rock’s channel during VidCon on Thursday.

  • “Myself and Lilly, we’re going to do some really, really cool things in the future, we can’t wait to bring them to you,” he said from the set of “Fast & Furious 8,” to a crowd of cheering VidCon fans. “I just wanted to create a platform that shines a light on the incredible YouTube talent that’s out there — YouTube talent that a lot of people have seen, and YouTube talent that no-one has seen.”

New content will begin on July 18.
