  • Netflix’s summer smash Stranger Things was born for the internet. Combining cute kids with ’80s nostalgia — while actually being a quality show — is a recipe for massive viral success, even if the show almost didn’t happen. Benefiting most from this popularity are the show’s breakout young stars. By now you’ve probably already seen their Tonight Show takeover. Last night, however, they got their biggest stage yet, both literally and figuratively.

We’ve surely all heard Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ 2015 hit “Uptown Funk” enough times by now, right? There’s no way anyone could make it fresh and interesting. By “anyone,” we mean “anyone other than the Stranger Things kids.” Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLoughlin, and Millie Bobby Brown, three of the show’s stars, took the Emmys stage before the show started and absolutely crushed “Uptown Funk.” (Finn Wolfhard, according to at least one internet commenter, couldn’t make it because he’s filming the It reboot.)

Their performance didn’t make it into the show, but it lives on in the form of video taken by people at the event. Vulture’s Twitter video is above, and there’s also this longer, lower-quality recording that, being on YouTube, is likely to be taken down. Check it out while you can:

  • Matarazzo, McLoughlin, and Brown did get the chance to appear in the actual show, too. In one of the Emmys moments that’s got everyone talking, they got into costume and handed out dozens of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches to the audience members. Sadly, the official video hasn’t been released by the Emmys or ABC, so we’ll have to content ourselves with these GIFs:

Season one of Stranger Things is available now on Netflix. The show was released too late in the year to get nominated for any 2016 Emmys, but if they keep themselves in front of the public eye like this, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them get some recognition in 2017.
