  • Pulling inspiration from Skylar Grey‘s “Don’t Look Down” album cover caption contest, we challenged the singer/songwriter to our own version of the challenge, asking her to brainstorm the best captions for some of Reddit’s most-shared images right now.

What do you think is going on in Skylar Grey’s “Don’t Look Down” album cover? Tweet your caption to Skylar with #SGDontLookDown (album coming out Spring 2013)! “It’s open to interpretation,” she says. “It’s like an ‘Oh f***k! What did I just do?’ moment.”

Ross offers a lengthier version: “She killed someone and she’s now washing the clothes that had the blood splatter all over it, and then she’s like, ‘Ah, and I have dishes, too!'” It may be verbose, but it got Skylar’s stamp of approval!

Among the Internet’s most favorite pics of the week are Sandra Bullock awkwardly opening an envelope at the Oscars, a muddy proposal, the hairiest of hairy backs, Jim Carrey’s gigantic feet, and more.

Once Ross opens the floodgates by making a “2 Girls 1 Cup” reference, Skylar hits us with this question: “Did you know I used to edit porn?” to which Shira and Ross respond, “No!” Skylar tells us that she has experience editing amateur works in the industry, adding that the aforementioned dirty video didn’t affect her “because I was so numb to crazy stuff.”

We also chatted with Skylar about working with Eminem on her big record, her personal writing process, and the fear of turning 27 (so old!…)

“I tried not to celebrate it this year, but I got a lot of surprises,” she says of recently celebrating her 27th birthday. “I got some new socks and underwear. You know what? Every holiday, I ask for socks and underwear.” You can never have enough, really!

Speaking of the new album, she says, “It took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted it to sound like.” She adds, “I’m very, very excited for people to hear it and let it speak for itself because I feel like I’ve been talking about it for three years.”

Having performed and collaborated with male music icons like Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Diddy, Skylar says that it was intimidating at first. “They’re walking legends, so it was a little bit nerve-wracking.” But she just let the music lead the way and stuck with her instincts.

She also shares her favorite line off of the album, which may actually be the first lyric on the whole record, from the opening of the song, “Final Warning”: “Good morning, gorgeous. I drove your truck in the lake last night.”

While she was experimenting with different sounds and genres, Eminem gave her the most crucial advice: “Just be you. Just be yourself.” She says, “That, to me, is so simple, but it meant so much,” especially when it felt like she was trying to be something she’s not and she was able to bring it back to her roots.
