  • Lucas Cruikshank a.k.a. Fred Figglehorn stops by the What’s Trending studio to talk about his new Nickelodeon show, “Marvin Marvin,” the future of “Fred,” and his knowledge of pop culture’s most famous aliens.

Following up from “The Fred Show,” based on his hyper YouTube character, Lucas is now starring in Nickelodeon’s “Marvin Marvin,” a series about an alien hiding out on Earth.

While he doesn’t know any aliens in real life, Lucas can offer other ways that he prepared for portraying the otherworldly character. “The show is kind of a modern interpretation of ‘Mork & Mindy’ with Robin Williams, so I watched some of that before,” he says. “I guess just find your inner weirdo.”

Since hitting the big time with Nickelodeon, Lucas hasn’t been updating the Fred YouTube channel as often, but that doesn’t mean he’s lost touch from the character. “Once I put on the Fred show, it kind of all just comes into place,” Lucas says. He notes that he’s been doing it for so long, so it’s basically become second nature.

Lucas also tells us that the inspiration behind making his grand foray onto YouTube with “Fred” comes from his seven siblings. “My older sisters, when I was younger, would make videos but it was obviously before YouTube so they didn’t go online or anything.” He also confirms that – unlike Fred – his mom is not an alcoholic and his dad is not in prison.

He’s not sure when the Fred videos are returning but he’s still updating his Lucas YouTube channel with regularity, where viewers can see what the actor is up to in his every day life.

Still, the fans are eager to know if there is a possibility for a “Fred” film in the future. For this, Lucas quotes the super quotable Justin Bieber: “Never say never.” He then adds, “I always thought it would be funny to do a Fred movie when I’m 40.”
