  • Jack Black is stirring spooky things up online with his new Yahoo! Screen series, “Ghost Ghirls,” directed by Drunk History’s Jeremy Konnor. Jack joined us in the studio with the show’s stars Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci to chat about the show’s creation and ghost stories.

“We’re really inspired by ‘Ghost Whisperer’ and ‘Medium’ and all those shows,” Amanda says of how the show came into fruition.

“I’ve never seen those shows. I’m gonna be honest. I just love this show,” Jack says. “I love the idea of ghosts, but I’ve never actually seen one. I’m pretty sure they don’t exist. But my wife swears she saw a ghost. And I believe she believes she saw a ghost.”

One of their fictional ghosts, who they describe as despicable, scary, and demonic, is played by fellow comedian Bob Odenkirk. “Bob Odenkirk really hit it out of the park,” Jack says. “He’s my old pal from the ‘Mr. Show’ days. You could say that he discovered me, because he put Tenacious D on television for the first time.”

As for their director, that discovery was a bit serendipitous. “He was in a band somewhere playing the saw,” Jack said. “And the girls kind of stumbled upon him. They kind of discovered this odd guy playing a saw. So, it was like the reverse discovery that you usually hear about.”

He continued, “And they made this thing on a shoestring budget. And it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.”

So, can we expect much more of Jack’s comedy online? “It’s the future,” he says of web entertainment. “It’s just another sweet avenue to do magic.”

While we were all spookified, we invited Jack and the ladies to hold a seance in the studio, and help channel the ghosts that have been haunting us…
