  • On Sunday, December 2, our own Shira Lazar and Tyler Oakley hosted the red carpet of The Trevor Project‘s“Trevor Live” gala, the annual star-studded event that raises awareness and funds for programs that help LGBT in crisis.

Before heading into the Hollywood Palladium, “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson chatted with Shira and Tyler about his Emmy-winning ABC show and supporting the Trevor cause.

“Tonight, I’m hoping to come with a little bit of levity because I know it can be a very emotional evening,” he said.

Having started in theatre in New York, Jesse revealed that since he arrived in L.A., he’s been involved with The Trevor Project. “I’m so excited that I can work with them now because I think the work that they do is just unbelievable,” he said.

Since he portrays an openly gay and happily coupled man on “Modern Family,” Jesse is used to being asked about the show’s influence on social change. “I think that if you can handle anything with humor and grace and wit, you’re going to get a lot farther,” he said. “So, I love that people are maybe changing their minds about equality because of Mitchell and Cameron.”

Finally, he left viewers with a message of positivity and hope. “Love yourself. Know that the world is much bigger than the town you’re in and out here in L.A., we’re having a grand old time and we wish you could be with us!”
