  • On Sunday, December 2, our own Shira Lazar and Tyler Oakley hosted the red carpet of The Trevor Project‘s “Trevor Live” gala, the annual star-studded event that raises awareness and funds for programs that help LGBT in crisis.

The funny ladies of NBC’s “Parks & Recreation” stop by to chat about their sitcom and building a supportive community for friends and those in need.

Amy Poehler – who had the honor of being the “Voice of God” at this event – starts things off by saying, “Parks & Rec. is watched by a lot of young people, so we’re happy that maybe our fans can know more about this and use it if they need to.”

While Rashida Jones didn’t necessarily have a tough time socializing as a teen, she admits that she was picked on a bit for being chubby. “Teasing hurts a lot,” she says. “I think any kind of support that you can give a young person that makes them feel like they’re not alone is great.”

Giving some love to their other creative ventures, Amy throws a shoutout to all of the performers and up-and-coming comedy stars at her own Upright Citizens Brigade theatre in New York and L.A. while Rashida shares some details about filming “Celeste and Jesse Forever” with former SNL star Andy Samberg.

Finally, the comediennes offer their advice to viewers who might be going through their own rough experiences. Amy says, “Keep your head up. No feeling is final. Hang in there. You’re a very special person and we love you very much.”

“It’s okay if you’re different,” Aubrey chimes in. “Being different is the best.”
