Idris Elba is one of the most elegant and sharp-looking men known to internet-kind, so people were pretty annoyed when Anthony Horowitz, writer of the new James Bond novels, said Elba is “too street” to play the part.
The author, whose latest Bond novel Trigger Mortis comes out this week, got in trouble with the internet this week after telling the Daily Mail he doesn’t think Elba is a good choice for the role.
“For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah."
The internet blowback has been pretty intense, causing Horowitz to apologize - and to be fair, he did suggest a black actor who he thought could play the part. But calling someone “street” in this day and age has too many negative connotations.
