Taylor Swift’s Hilarious Lawsuit Ruling

It’s always nice to see legal professionals having a bit of fun as they shoot down dumbass lawsuits.

A man named Jesse Braham, who goes by the stage name Jesse Graham, sued Taylor Swift for $42 million, because of this song called “Haters Gonna Hate.”

Graham alleged that his line “haters gonna hate, players gonna play, watch out for them fakers,” was close enough to the chorus to Swift’s “Shake It Off” to warrant an intellectual property lawsuit.

However, Judge Gail Standish has dismissed the lawsuit, saying that those phrases are not original to Graham’s song either. The judge cites the songs “Playas Gon’ Play” by 3LW and the Urban Dictionary definition for “Haters Gonna Hate” which has been online since 2010.

The lawsuit has some other funny moments, including the following phrase: “For the purposes of this opinion, the Court is not drawing distinctions between ‘player’ and ‘playa’ and ‘gonna’ and ‘gon-e’.” The judge also threw in some great snarky footnotes, like the Merriam-Webster dictionary definitions for “meme” and “GIF.”

In conclusion, Judge Standish wrote: “But, for now, we have got problems, and the Court is not sure Braham can solve them. As currently drafted, the Complaint has a blank space – one that requires Braham to do more than write his name.”
