  • If you’re one of those people with that rare brain condition that makes you unable to forget anything, you might remember how last year, Michael J. Fox tried on the first ever self-lacing shoes. (You might also remember the TV show Unforgettable about that rare brain condition. Certainly no one else does.)

Those shoes were specifically a reference to the Nike Air Mags from Back to the Future Part II, and were only available via a special auction. Now, the technology is reaching a wider audience.

WIRED met with Tinker Hatfield and Tiffany Beers from Nike to talk about the HyperAdapt, their new power-lacing sneaker. Here’s the video from WIRED’s YouTube channel:

  • In the video, Hatfield and Beers talk about how awesome their shoe is. It ties itself! How neat is that? They do go into more detail than that — I distinctly remember hearing “fit system,” “lace engine,” and “fly wire” (which I guess is just really hip wire) in there somewhere — but let’s be honest: if you’re watching this, it’s because you want to see some good ol’ fashioned SHOE PORN. And this video has that in spades. Closeups of the shoes, people pressing buttons on the shoes, freaking LIGHTS on the shoes??? Goodness gracious, this is a family website!

There are also some quality jokes being made in the comments. Check out our host Ava Gordy reading some of them in the video above. Can you keep a straight face? She sure couldn’t, and I can’t blame her.

What do you think? Will you run out and buy a pair of these shoes when they go on sale November 28th? Let us know in the comments below or at @WhatsTrending on Twitter!
