  • Pop superstar and reigning Queen Beyoncé took on the Country Music Association Awards this year with some help from the iconic country group, the Dixie Chicks. Earlier this year, Beyonce dropped the smash album (and movie) Lemonade. The album featured a lot of talk about divorce and relationship struggles, (although it appears her and Jay are fine now) and a little bit of country influence.

The group of rebellious women performed Yonce’s “Daddy Lessons” and “Long Time Gone” by the Chicks. The performance was met with praise and criticism, but some of it seems just like racism.

So, in the case of this years’ Country Music Awards, plenty of haters decide to sh*t on Beyonce for performing in the stead of ‘real country artists’.

This is completely absurd, given that the pop superstar is not only from Houston, Texas, but cites country music as a heavy influence in her work. Beyonce has written several country-esque songs (think “Sandcastles”, “Daddy Lessons”) and even if she didn’t, she can sure perform them on point.

Here’s a clip of the performance via Rolling Stone, because the Country Music Association recently took down the full performance from YouTube. Hmmm.

  • But country music star Kenny Chesney looked rather displeased with Queen Bey’s performance when the audience camera turned to him. Check it out below.

  • And it wasn’t just Chesney. Plenty of conservative country fans were upset with Beyonce’s presence, saying that she “didn’t belong”.

  • This county fan seemed to think Beyonce didn’t belong at the CMA’s because she’s not “country”.

  • And then there was this conservative country music fan who was appalled at Yonce’s presence.

  • Tell em BOY, BYE!
