Fiona Apple is a musician known for her eclectic style. Now, she’s taking on a nightmare: President-elect Trump. She’s made a mock-up of the classic "The Christmas Song”, the one that starts with, "chestnuts roasting on an open fire". You can imagine what she put on the open fire. What’s Trending hasn’t discussed Fiona Apple since 2013, so this is exciting.
In the video below, Apple is singing to the camera as her dog (or a dog) barks in the background. I think the dog just hates the mention of Trump, and I don’t blame it. Here’s the video:
And here's a transcription of the lyrics:
"Trump’s nuts roasting on an open fire/as he keeps nipping at his foes/you call "creepy uncle" every time he arrives/for he keeps clawing at your clothes/everybody knows/that money and entitlement can help to make the season white/mothers of color with their kids out of sight/will find it hard to sleep at night./ They know that Trump is on his way/he’s got black boys in hoodies locked up on his sleigh/and every working man is going to cry/when they learn that they don’t care how you live or if you die. So I’m offering this simple phrase/for kids from one to 92/although its been said many times, many ways/merry Christmas, to you."
Apple then tears apart a photo of Trump a la Sinead O’Connor. Fight the real enemy, indeed.
