  • Obdulia Sanchez, an 18-year-old from Merced County, California, was driving while livestreaming and caused a fatal crash that claimed the life of her 14-year-old sister and injuring another. Sanchez accidentally swerved off the road, over-corrected, crashed into a barbed-wire fence and rolled into a field. Authorities say that alcohol was also involved in the incident. The two girls in the backseat were not wearing safety belts and were ejected from the vehicle.

After the crash happened, Sanchez began to livestream again. The LA Times reports that moments after the crash, Sanchez started recording again, this time, she was outside the vehicle. As she looks into the camera, she says, “Everybody, if I go to … jail for life you already know why.”

Sanchez shot footage of her sister as she is dying from her injuries. Sanchez kissed her sister’s face, shook her several times and said “Jacqueline, please wake up.” She continued, “I … killed my sister, OK. … This is last thing that I wanted to happen, OK? I don’t … care, though, I am holding it down. I love you. Rest in peace sweetie. If you don’t survive, I am so … sorry.”

The two girls in the backseat were on their way to prepare for Jacqueline’s quinceñera. Now, the family is gathering donations on GoFundMe to help pay for funeral expenses. Using your smartphone while driving is as dangerous as drinking and driving.Studies report that even when using a cell phone with a hands-free device is as bad as being legally intoxicated. In fact, cellphone users in the study got into more crashes than drunk drivers.

Don’t take chances while driving. Whatever it is, whoever it is, it can wait until you park. What do you guys think of Sanchez live streaming everything? Let us know in the comments or at @whatstrending on Twitter!
