  • Many in the Red Sox Nation thought the 2004 and 2008 World Championship trophies ended Boston’s historic fall collapses.  This year, however, it seems the curse is back.

On September 9th–yes, 12 days ago–Boston held a 9 game lead on the closest Wild-card competitor, their fellow AL East team, the Tampa Bay Rays. In fact, just over a month ago, Boston had the second best record in baseball.  Since 9/9, though, Boston has gone 4-13 and now leads Tamps Bay by only 2.5 games in the race for the final American League playoff spot.

But the BoSox are not alone, the Atlanta Braves are behaving similarly in the National League.  They’re 2.5 games up in their Wild-card chase with the streaking St. Louis Cardinals.  A month ago, the Braves were tied the for second best record in the NL. The Braves also have a history of late/post-season defeat.  The last time Atlanta took home the Commissioner’s Trophy was 1995.
