  • In November 2007, U.S. student Amanda Knox was convicted for sexually assaulting and ultimately murdering her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Italy. Today, Knox tearfully gave her final plea of innocence in front of an Italian court, as her family and other supporters watched.

"I did not do the things they say I did. I did not kill, rape or steal. I was not there," Knox said. "I want to go home. I want to go back to my life. I do not want to be punished. I do not want to be deprived of my life for something I did not do, because I am innocent."

In 2009, Knox and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were found guilty of killing Kercher two year's after Kercher's naked throat-slashed body was discovered behind the door of the flat she shared with the couple. Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison, while Sollecito was given 25 years.

During Knox's appeal trial this past summer, scientific evidence presented to the court proved that the DNA used to convict Knox is unreliable.

Here's what some little birds following the story have had to say online.
