The Detroit Tigers forced a sixth ALCS game with the Texas Rangers and the Milwaukee Brewers evened the NLCS at 2-2 against the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball Postseason action on Thursday.
Despite facing elimination, the Tigers put the Rangers’ AL Championship celebration on hold for at least one more game after Thursday’s 7-5 victory over their foes from Central Texas.
The victory came in-large due a three-run 5th Inning. In a rare twist, four Detroit batters consecutively hit for the cycle–a single, double, triple, and home-run. The Rangers’ attempted a late-inning comeback, but fell short. The series has a day off and returns to Texas for a sixth game on Saturday, and possibly a seventh on Sunday, if necessary.
Thursday night also provided fierce competition as the Brewers tied the NLCS with a riveting 4-2 victory over the Cardinals. Randy Wolf, the Brewers’ 35-year-old southpaw, pitched with beautiful tact, often out-thinking batters with well-placed, off-speed strikes.
The game, while considered a pitcher’s duel between Wolf and a less than impressive Chris Carpenter for the Cardinals, did provide a few big extra-base hits including a second inning homer by Cardinals’ Left-fielder Matt Holiday and double by Brewers’ Center-fielder and team wildman Nyjer Morgan. In the end the Brewers triumphed, forcing at least two more games in the series. Game five will be held tomorrow night in Milwaukee.
