Scott Hall wrestled for World Wrestling Federation from 1992 until 1996 after a suspension for drug abuse. He then moved to World Championship Wrestling where he was part of biggest wrestling groups of all time, the New World Order, and helped WCW defeat WWE in the television ratings war of the mid to late 90’s. It was the glamorous life of partying out on the road that drove Scott Hall towards drug and alcohol abuse. It eventually led to his divorce and downward spiral to the bottom.
Hall, who today turns 53, still tries to reclaim his former glory by making appearances on independent wrestling promotions. In April of this year, Scott Hall decided not to attend the induction ceremony of his long time friend Shawn Michaels into the WWE Hall of Fame for concerns of staying sober in that environment. Headlines were made a few days later when Scott Hall made an appearance at a Top Rope Promotions show in Massachusetts just two days after being checked into a hospital after a seizure. He showed up to the event in poor condition, still wearing the hospital band. In the interview, Scott Hall claims he doesn’t even remember being at that event. PJ Polaco, one of the wrestlers that worked with him that night said it was the most embarrassing thing he’s ever been a part of in wrestling. That night, Hall was checked in to a Rhode Island hospital and was treated for an overdose of opiates and benzodiazepines.
Wrestling is filled with stories of the tragedies of fallen wrestlers, Scott Hall doesn’t have to be one and has the opportunity to help himself. In the interview he says, “I don’t want to die, but I’m not afraid to die. What do you do when they quit chanting your name?”
