Manny Pacquiao defeated Juan Manuel Marquez once again, and once again it was a controversial decision. Before these two fought in front of the sold out MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last night, they went at it two times prior. The first fight ended in a draw, while Pacquiao won the second fight by a single point, scored in the second round by knocking down Marquez.
Saturday night, Pacquiao faced a real contender for his WBC Welterweight Championship and fought for another 12 rounds. Pacquiao would come into the fight with a record of 53 wins with 3 losses and 2 draws. Marquez would come with a record of 53 wins with 5 losses and 1 draw from their first encounter.
When the final bell to end the twelfth round rang, the pro Marquez crowd thought they had won, Pacquiao but the judges had decided otherwise. The reaction online was much like the reaction in the arena, utter disapproval. Marquez quickly left the ring as fans began to throw bottles and cups into the ring. In the post-fight interview, Pacquiao said he clearly won the fight, while Marquez claimed he was robbed and even considered retiring because of the judge's decision.
The end of this fight can't come without talk of a possible fight with the true number 1 pound-for-pound fighter, Floyd Mayweather. When asked if Manny would face Floyd in a possible fight in May of 2012, Manny said he didn't know and to ask his promoter. When his promoter, Bob Arum, was asked he dodged the question. Instead, Arum added that the current fight had gotten so many pay-per-view buys, and that fans love to see a rematch.
