SNL, Spider-Man and a Special Doctor are Saving Orphans

Two days after hosting Saturday Night Live, Emma Stone and her beau (and Amazing Spider-Man co-star) Andrew Garfield attended the Worldwide Orphans Foundations 2011 Benefit Gala co-hosted by SNL alum Amy Poehler and Will Arnett. Amy and Will left their own kids at home and took breaks from the shows they currently film in LA (Parks and Recreation and Up All Night) to take part in the black tie affair that raised funds and awareness for the foundation beloved and bespectacled pediatrician Jane Aronson began in 1997 to transform the lives of orphaned children around the world.

At Cipriani Wall Street, only blocks from where the NYPD cleared the Occupy Wall Streeters camped out in Zuccotti Park hours later, Amy stood behind a podium in front of hundreds of guests and explained that she met Dr. Jane Aronson at The Glamour Awards in 2009 and said, “I instantly loved her, believed in her work with WWO and said yes to helping her in any way that I could.”

When asked if she and Will have considered adding to their own brood adopting one of the children, Will, who referred to Jane as a woman who “wears blue eyeglasses with secret superhero powers” clarified that the foundation, “Is not about adoption, it’s about raising awareness and about helping children in their own communities.” He explained, “What is so great about WWO is that whether you have been working with it for years or just discovering the foundation, it makes sense. Millions of children all over the world deserve love, happiness and a sense of home.”

Live auction lots including a pair of tickets to the Spider-Man premiere and meet and greets with Emma and Andrew that went for $17,000 and four tickets to a live taping of SNL that went for over $25,000 contributed to making the evening success and saw the emergence of more Hollywood couples helping Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt give orphans of the world a better life.
