 The countdowns and roundups continue with Facebook revealing it’s top ten global topics and memes according to mentions in status updates of its over 800 million users. Similarly to Twitter, global news stories dominated feeds with Osama Bin Laden’s death taking the number one spot.
No surprise that Planking garnered the top meme spot, as users mentioned and uploaded pics of themselves or others lying face down in different locations. Grammy nominated Skrillex also became memeworthy in 2011. According to Facebook, mentions of the music producer increased 76-fold this past year after a collaboration tour with Korn and record label launch.Â
