  • “Let’s move, the world ain’t saving itself,” says Dwayne Johnson who stars in the new ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’.

The second film since 2009 in the action packed franchise, has Johnson battling the terrorist group Cobra alongside Bruce Willis and Channing Tatum returning as Duke. Jon M. Chu, who online nerds know from directing Hulu’s ‘The LXD’ and more mainstream films like ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ and ‘Step Up’, directed the film shot primarily in New Orleans.

The trailer released exclusively on Machinima already has practically half a million views in less than 24 hours.

  • Besides getting some great first reviews by fans, it doesn’t hurt that the film’s cast and crew are social media rock stars to help further market and promote the film. Chu has over 410,000 Twitter followers and has been retweeting shout outs about the trailer. Tatum is very active online with over 677,000 followers. The Rock definitely wins though, with over 1 million followers and a whopping 4.5 million likes on his Facebook fan page.
