Ahh…late December – a time of good tidings and holiday cheer, a time to get ready for the Winter Solstice, the shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere, and a time for believers in ancient Mayan culture to prepare for the end of the world. According to the Mayan calendar, the apocalypse will descend upon us all on the Winter Solstice of 2012, which will be one year from today. A number of astronomers beg to differ. They say the Mayan doomsday is likely just another failed theory in the long lineage of false judgment days.
