  • The 911 police call in the Trayvon Martin case is now online, revealing the shooter’s thoughts right before he engaged with Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old student. Neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman, who fatally shot Martin in an Orlando Suburb on February 26, after witnessing what he described as suspicious behavior, will now be the subject of U.S. Department is Justice investigation. Zimmerman, who was let go without chargers after the incident, has become the target of intense public scrutiny.

Listening to the tape (below), it’s difficult to know whether Zimmerman’s prejudices led him to falsely see nefarious intent. “These a**holes, they always get away,” he said to the dispatch on the police call. “He’s got his hand in his waste band,” he observed during the call, as he pursued the boy against the suggestion of the dispatch (Martin, according to Zimmerman, was running away).

Citizens on the Internet are not waiting for the Justice Department, and are circulating a Change.org petition calling for Zimmerman’s arrest, which already has +550,000 signatures.

What do you think of the situation? Should Zimmerman be arrested or was he doing his duty?
