  • Castle star, Nathan Fillion, donated his birthday to Charity Water yesterday. While novelist and heartthrob Rick Castle might live a shamelessly extravagant lifestyle, the man who portrays him knows an opportunity to do good when he sees it.

A few days before turning 41 on March 27, Fillion tweeted: “My birthday is coming up. Want to buy me a cup of coffee? Send the money here instead. https://mycharitywater.org/NathanFillion,” followed by, “Yes, I did steal this birthday idea from @Alyssa_Milano. I’m sure she won’t mind. (Self note: check and see if she minds.)”

Last week, What’s Trending host, Shira Lazar, spoke with Charity Water co-founder, Scott Harrison, on the eve of World Water Day, where she announced that she would also be helping the effort by donating her birthday.

The deal is that the world and our bodies are each composed of about 70% water, yet more people in the world have access to a mobile phone than clean and safe water. Charity Water is a non-profit organization that brings clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries, with 100% of public donations to clean water projects.

Fillion’s campaign goal was to raise $50,000 in 88 days and before midnight on his birthday, contributors exceeded the estimate with a generous $54,440. And it’s still growing. Fillion’s birthday spoils proved to be well worth the donation — and much more advantageous than 25,000 cups of coffee.
