There were numerous announcements made on Monday, but few were as heralded and anticipated as the announcement of the new MacBook Pro, which will feature a Retina display, a first for Apple notebooks. The new notebook sounds almost like a MacBook Pro/Air hybrid: it’s thinner, lighter and more expensive ($2,199) than its predecessor. It features internal components that make the notebook sound quitter, 8 gigabytes of RAM and a 256 gigabyte hard drive; Apple claims its battery will last for up to seven hours. The addition of an HDMI output port and a pair of Thunderbolt ports also highlight the new MacBook Pro.
Other major announcements included an updated operating system in iOS 6, which will allow Facetime to work with a cellphone’s own network instead of only WiFi and will be available in the fall, reports CNET.
On Twitter, iOS 6 appeared to be the most anticipated development by consumers, who were curious about it’s release date. The past 24 hours alone saw more than 60,000 uses of the hashtag #WWDC, according to Topsy.
Siri’s abilities have also been expanded, and will now allow users to use it to launch apps and even Tweet for you. Additionally, Apple announced plans to integrate Siri into cars, which might involve the use of button to activate.
