  • With one the nation’s most prestigious music award shows this weekend, social media scientists are diligently trying to uncover if the crowd can predict the winner of this year’s Grammys.

Rihanna’s Loud is getting 3 times the buzz as any of her competitors (Lady Gaga, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, or Adele), but it’s largely neutral. When comparing positive statements across a wide variety of sources (blogs, comment boards, Twitter, Facebook, and video/images), Lady Gaga is leading the pack, which may be due to her massive online following (currently 19 million Twitter followers).

A similar story is being told for Record of the Year, with Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” getting the most positive buzz, but only 2/3 of the overall mentions as Bon Iver’s “Holocene”.

Skrillex is leading the pack for Best new Artist for positive buzz. Nicki Minaj, though, has a slight lead on the overall mentions.

Song of the Year is a tight race, with Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” narrowly beating Bruno Mars’s “Grande” (23% vs. 20% in overall buzz). Though, Adele is also winning in positive sentiment, which puts her in a solid first lead.
