This latest challenge is a Tik Tok, finger eating, optical illusion gone viral.
Tik Tok has replaced Musically as the newest lip syncing app, with huge stars jumping on like Liza Koshy and Jimmy Fallon.
Originating from China, the app has been downloaded over 80 million times in the United States, and nearly 800 million times worldwide and shows users cooking, dancing, and lip synching to music.
It’s also responsible for birthing viral challenges and bringing joy to people around the globe. Viral challenges like the Kiki Challenge.., or the Matilda Challenge are just a few examples of how sensational short form videos can be.
Tik Tok allows users to play with filters and special effects to create illusions – and this latest crazy will definitely make you do a double take. Set to the Kidz Bop version of Evanescence’s Bring Me to Life… users employ the mirror effect to make it look like disembodied fingers are disappearing into their mouth.
And yes this seems like a silly and only slightly visually disturbing trend, at least this trend is 100% safe.. that is of course if this trend doesn’t inspire people to actually eat their fingers.
And with the way a lot of viral trends go, that might not be out of the realm of possibility. Viral challenge culture has landed a lot of people in the hospital, and countless injuries have occurred from other challenges like the 5 finger filet, bloody knuckles and tide pod challenges.
Not to mention all the kids harmed in the Bird Box challenge and the zoom challenge.
But at least on Tik Tok, a lot of these challenges like this one are harmless and clever.
