Rap artist Cardi B has made history by becoming the first female rapper in 19 years to top the charts. Move aside Taylor Swift, there is a new queen in town!
Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" beat out Taylor's song "Look What You Made Me Do" claiming the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this week! The last time a female rapper topped the chart was in 1998, when Lauryn Hill made history with her song Doo Wop (That Thing.)

Just a couple of years later, Cardi B took on her role as a social media influencer full time, which enabled her to quit her job as a stripper.
Her Instagram fame and sassy attitude caught the attention of producers for the docu-series, Love & Hip-Hop: New York, and after being placed as a cast member on the show, her following and fame far outgrew that of the show itself.
Despite the skepticism, she released her debut single during her first season on Love and Hip-Hop, called "Cheap Ass Weave", a remake of "Queen's Speech Ep4 (Brush Your Teeth) by Lady Leshurr, which was surprisingly well received.., and Cardi B's rapping career was born.
After the release of both her mixtapes Gangster Bitch 1 and 2, she rode the wave of praise…which led her to sign with Atlantic records and release her debut single called ‘Bodak Yellow.”
