A rare book about the human soul and life after death called Des Destinées de L’ame by Arsene Houssaye, in the Harvard Library, was confirmed to be bound with human skin.
Dr. Ludovic Bouland, who received the book from the author, left a note in the book claiming it was bound with the skin of an unclaimed female mental patient. It was finally confirmed with 99% certainty that it is, indeed, wrapped in the flesh of a person.
“This book is bound in human skin parchment on which no ornament has been stamped to preserve its elegance,” Bouland told WFSB. “By looking carefully you easily distinguish the pores of the skin. A book about the human soul deserved to have a human covering …”
That’s as good a reason as any, we guess. Shudder.
