Charles Wright was named the new Poet Laureate today.
He is a retired professor at the University of Virginia and has won pretty much every other award imaginable for poetry, including the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.
Wright has written almost two dozen collections of verse, and is well-known for his poems focusing on a microcosm of emotions. However, he was still surprised when he was announced for the award.
“I’m very honored and flattered to be picked, but also somewhat confused,” said Wright to the New York Times, ““I really don’t know what I’m supposed to do,” he continued. “But as soon as I find out, I’ll do it.”
