In 2012, when Michael Bay spoke about his upcoming ‘Ninja Turtles’ Reboot, he made comments like this:
“These turtles [in the reboot] are from an alien race, and they’re going to be tough, edgy, funny, and completely lovable.”

Fans of the original series got more than a little upset.
“If they’re aliens then why would they be ninjas!?!? They would have laser guns and lightsabers and junk! They wouldn’t need to be ninjas! Michael Bay is the destroyer of worlds!”

In early 2013, Bay responded to fan reaction and corrected course.
“There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press,” Bay said. “I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great.”
