  • CBS Sports has the crucial details…

According to the team’s official site, Boateng unleashed “vulgar verbal insults” at coach Kwesi Appiah during training and later showed no remorse for his actions.

Muntari engaged in an “unprovoked physical attack on an Executive Committee member of the GFA and a management member of the Black Stars, Mr. Moses Armah on Tuesday 24th June, 2014 during a meeting.” Reports indicate that Muntari and other members of the national team were upset over appearance fees and money they believed to be owed to them.

  • CNN provides more background…

In an interview with German magazine, Sport-Bild, Boateng says he “absolutely accepts” his punishment and blamed a training ground bust-up for his exclusion.

“Sulley Muntari and I were just joking around, and the coach stopped the session and sent us back to the changing room,” said Boateng.

“Afterwards I went to him and asked what he had against me and he started yelling. He insulted me.”

“No-one should think I insulted the coach. I’m traveling now, and I wish my colleagues all the best for the match against Portugal,” added Boateng, referring to Ghana’s final World Cup Group G match Thursday.

  • BBC Sports takes an optimistic outlook…

The news comes just hours before Ghana take on Portugal on Thursday.

The Black Stars still have an outside chance of qualifying for the knockout phase of the tournament… To reach the last 16, Ghana need to beat Portugal and hope there is a winner of the match between Germany and United States – although the Black Stars would also need to overtake their rivals’ superior goal difference.
