This footage captures the shooting on Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter this Sunday. The video shows the panic of people causally strolling the famous street, when they hear gun shots causing them to scurry into shops and dunk low to the ground to find safety.
Nine people were shot, leaving seven hospitalized Sunday after the shooting. By Monday five remained hospitalized in stable condition and one in critical condition.
New Orleans Police Chief Ronal Serpas said the shooting was caused by two men getting into a fight and turning to their guns to shoot each other.
The incident occurred four days before the city’s annual Essence Festival. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu wants the four-day event, which usually brings in a lot of tourists, to be safe.
“Our No. 1 priority is to keep New Orleans safe. These kinds of incidents will not go unanswered … I am confident that between video evidence and eyewitness accounts, we will bring the perpetrators to justice,” Landrieu said in a statement issued through City Hall spokesman Tyler Gamble.
