Photos of actor Zac Efron smooching actress Michelle Rodriguez have caused quite a stir. The pictures show blatant PDA between the two, who cannot keep their paws off of each other.

But why is this causing such a ruckus?

First, Michelle’s affection may be on display too soon. It has only been a few weeks since she was last spotted with lover Cara Delevingne. After all, Michelle has been very open about her bisexuality.

“I’ve gone both ways,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly. “I do as I please,” she continued. “I am too f—king curious to sit here and not try when I can. Men are intriguing. So are chicks.”

The age gap between Michelle and Zac (35 to 26), already has a taboo attached to it. Zac’s role as “a tanned, man-shaped Disney puppet” makes him seem vulnerable – prey to a cougar almost a decade his senior. The scrunched up noses and retching noises accompanied by oogling the pictures may be indicative of society’s underlying fear of a powerfully sexual female.

So, while the photos are certainly no different from other celebrity gossip, the world’s reactions to them have a deeper societal meaning.
