15-year-old Vine star Shawn Mendes held a live stream Sunday night to commemorate the release of his debut EP.

During the live stream, which drew nearly 26,000 viewers, Mendes urged fans to tweet, “#ShawnToNumber1.”

“Let’s get this bad boy to No. 1,” Mendes exclaimed. And his fans did just that, propelling the EP to the number one spot on iTunes just 37 minutes after it released.

While he originally gained his following on Vine, the six-second video app, he has real musical talent.

“I mean the Vine thing completely misleads you in terms of what is the serious ability that he has,” David Massey, the president of Island Records, told Mashable. “The Vine part of it is the way that he got discovered, as a way that he built a fan base, which is absolutely wonderful, but what the results should send is he’s a serious star, and people are reacting and wanting to be very much part of his journey.”

Mendes’ chart-topping debut edged out projects by the likes of 5 seconds of summer, Troye Sivan, and Sam Smith.
