The Subway Spa
If you didn’t already know, New York City subway platforms are mini hells on Earth in the summer season. The worst being 34th St. station and 42nd St. Times Square station. The un-airconditioned platforms will no doubt make you dread your commutes and leave you silently cursing as beads of sweat begin to run down your face. So how do you make that subway experience more enjoyable?
Easy: Just imagine that you’re actually at the spa, or so the geniuses of Improv Everywhere thought up.
“We can’t provide air-conditioning so we’ve converted the space into a spa,” says Charlie Todd, founder of Improv Everywhere, in the video.
How exactly does this work, you may wonder. Well, by having Improv actors walk around in nothing but a towel, of course! But those are just the “customers,” a good lot are also in white uniform portraying the role of a spa employee.
Complimentary lemon water, stone treatment massages, cucumber-for-eyes galore. It’s a spa, all right. (We’re going to hold off on the part. Don’t get ahead of yourselves, Improv Everywhere!)
…Still, it makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?
It should be noted that this is not the first time Todd and his crew have used the subway as their space to set up their “pranks.” In the past, they’ve also done what is now the annual No Pants Subway Ride.
Watch the video! It’s strange, but it’ll brighten up your life. We promise. Plus, the looks on some people’s faces…well, they’re priceless.
