YouTube parody masters rejoice! A new law in the U.K. effective October 1st, will allow creators to parody a song without fear of legal repercussions. In the past, if you made a parody video in the UK using any amount of copyrighted material, you were at risk of being sued by the copyright owner.
Now, copyright owners can only take down parody videos or seek legal action if the parody uses the copyrighted material in a discriminatory manner. There are already laws like this in many European companies, as well as “Fair Use” laws in place here in the U.S.
